Global: From Sydney to San Francisco, Tokyo to Santiago, Madrid, London, New York and Rome, millions of demonstrators took to the streets this past weekend to to mark the first anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Los Angeles: During the 3/20 anti-war demonstration in Los Angeles, the LAPD planted undercover agents in the black bloc and then "arrested" those agents, with clubs flying, in an unsuccessful attempt to provoke the black bloc to violence. LA IndyMedia has the story here.
March 20:
6:30 pm: From 50 people in East Timor to 175 people in Fayetteville Arkansas, from a 100,000 in Madrid to 1,000,000 in the streets of Rome, millions of people around the world today demonstrated their opposition to George Bush's war and the continued occupation of Iraq. Now we all need to begin working on regime change in the United States, Britain, and all the other member countries of the "Coalition of the Killing."
6:05 pm- Portland: With a final tally of 10,000 to 15,000, Portland's rally is winding down peacefully, with no arrests reported. Portland IndyMedia has the story here.
5:21 pm- Austin: Community organizations from across Austin came together this morning to protest not only the occupation of Iraq, but also the more subtle occupation of Austin's poorer neighborhoods. Austin IndyMedia has the story here.
4:57 pm- Chicago: The marches in downtown Chicago are winding down with a total of three arrests reported. Chicago IndyMedia has the story here.
4:41 pm- Portland: 5,000 people are marching and a radical contingent, being followed by many police, has broken away from the main crowd. Portland IndyMedia is providing minute by minute updates here.
4:22 pm- British Columbia: Peace demonstrations are underway across B.C., including Commox Valley, Grand Forks, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Nelson, and Penticton. Check Victoria IndyMedia here for future updates.

3:45 pm- USA: A Wisconsin newspaper is reporting peace demonstrations in Cincinnati, Augusta Maine, and Atlanta. The Dunn County News has the story here.
3:35 pm- Michigan: Anti-occupation demonstrations were held in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and Ann Arbor today. No details avaliable yet, but check Michigan IMC for future updates.

2:47 pm- Global: An Australian newspaper is reporting hundreds of thousands marching around the world, including 200,000 in Barcelona, a 100,000 in Madrid, 50,000 in Manhattan, 2,000 in Dublin, 2,500 in Paris, 2,500 in Brussels, 500 in Prague, 1,000 in Budapest, and other demonstrations in Cuba, Egypt and Syria. 1:55 pm- Louisville: Eyewitness report just in of a moving demonstration in Louisville yesterday- " On 3/19 in Louisville KY, we placed 570 pairs of shoes--running shoes, baby shoes, prom shoes--on the Courthouse steps with a sign "The Shoes They Wore Before They Went to War." From 6am - 6pm, we had a vigil for the dead & wounded Americans and dead & wounded Iraqis. This event was awesome, moving, and drew major media attention..." 1:30 pm- Fayetteville: 150-175 people are gathered on the Square for a rally after marching there peacefully from the Walton Art Center. As the march went past, Sound Warehouse played peace music on its outdoor speakers.
1:10 pm- Europe: Contrary to earlier "police estimates" Reuters is reporting that upwards of a million people marched in Rome today, while 10,000 marched on the U.S. embassy in Athens, and about 1,000 protested outside a U.S. air base at Ramstein, Germany. The Financial Times has the story here.
12:28 pm- Rome: Tension is high at the pro-peace demonstration currently occurring in Rome as anti-globalisation activists tried to make their way through the security cordon protecting Piero Fassino, a leading member of the centre-left coalition, who they were addressing as "murderer". 12:15 pm- New York: Recent crowd estimates have eleven blocks completely full of protesters, from 23rd to 34th St. NYC IndyMedia is giving minute by minute updates here.
11:39 am- New York: The NYPD are setting up barricades and "protest pens" in an attempt to disrupt anti-war protests while NYC IndyMedia gives updates on which streets people can use to get to the demonstrations. NYC IndyMedia is giving updates on the situation here.
11:29 am- Chicago: Reports coming in of Chicago police attempting to disrupt the peace march down Michigan Avenue. Chicago IndyMedia is doing minute by minute updates here.
11:03 am- Europe: Islam Online is reporting that the biggest demonstrations in Europe so far have been seen in Britain, Spain and Italy, based on police estimates of 25,000 in London and 30,000 in Rome. In Turkey, a thousand demonstrators marched in Ankarra and another thousand in Istanbul. 2,000-3,000 marched in Cairo where 5,000 police officers were deployed to protect the U.S. and British Embassies. 10:17 am- South Africa: A South African television station is reporting that About two thousand people marched in Sydney and three thousand in Melbourne, that in the Philippines, riot police used water cannons to disperse about 100 demonstrators who tried to march on the US embassy, that thousands of people marched through central Tokyo to call for peace in Iraq and to demand the United States and Japan withdraw from the country, and that police estimated 25,000 anti-war activists were marching through the streets of London, shouting "Anti-Bush! 10:14 am- Melbourne: Several thousand people rallied outside the State Library against war and the ongoing occupation of Iraq, before marching to Treasury Gardens. Melbourne IMC has the story here.
8:00 am- Sydney: Carrying placards and banners, thousands of anti-war activists marched to the American Consulate, demanding that Australian troops be pulled out of Iraq. Sydney IndyMedia has the story here.
6:27 am- Dili: More than 50 East Timorese and supporters held a rally against the occupation of Iraq outside the United States Embassy in Dili, Timor Leste. Sydney IndyMedia has the story here.

9:50 pm- Sydney: More than a thousand people chanting ""end the occupation, no justice no peace" marched along Elizabeth Street, toward the American Embassy. News.com.au has the story here.
9:28 pm- Iraq: Thousands rallied in the street of Baghdad today to protest the U.S.-led occupation, expressing outrage over poor security and unemployment. Pacifica Radio has the story here.
8:30 pm- California: A peace rally called by Riverside Area Peace & Justice Action got underway about 30 minutes ago. The L.A. Koreatown Vigil for Peace started about 15 minutes ago. No further details on either rally avaliable yet.
8:00 pm- Melbourne: An anti-occupation rally is just beginning at the State Library. No word yet on numbers. Melbourne IndyMedia has the story here.
7:30 pm- York: Six of those arrested during the mass blockade at the Menwith Hill military base have been taken to Fulford Nick in York, where supporters have already begun demonstrating for their release. UK IndyMedia has the story here.

4:17 pm- Yorkshire: Reports are coming in of a mass blockade at Menwith Hill military base, the largest military spy base in the world, operated by the U.S. National Security Agency. Arrests are already underway, though we have no firm count on the number. UK IndyMedia has the story here.
4:10 pm- Heidelberg: Stars and Stripes is reporting that U.S. military bases across Germany are bracing for anti-war protests on Saturday. Stars and Stripes has the story here.
4:00 pm- San Francisco: Reports are coming in of more than 25 people being arrested for civil disobedience outside of the Bechtel Corporation's headqquarters. Global IndyMedia has the story here.
3:30 pm- Rome: A group of Italian Carabinieri policemen who have colleagues serving in Iraq announced on Friday that they would be taking part in a major anti-war rally in Rome on Saturday. The Carabinieri union UNAC, which has a membership of more than 20,000, said a dozen officers would join the demonstration bearinga UNAC banner. China View has the story here.
1:00 pm- San Francisco: Reports are coming in that eight people have been arrested for blocking sidewalks outside the headquarters of the Bechtel Corporation. The New York Times has the story here.
